Overview
The kidney market in Iran is the only legal market of this sort in the world. For the very first time, we obtained data on kidney donors and recipients from the Kidney Foundation in Mashhad (April 2011 up to March 2018), and, assess how individualistic characteristics affect the price of a kidney. Our findings indicate that each year of education for both donors and recipients reinforces the kidney price. Moreover, old patients reimburse young vendors as well as donors with blood type O with a higher price. We provide some policy implication to improve the efficiency of kidney allocations. Insights from this paper could shed some light to improve functions of other organ markets as well.
